It was late, and I must have wandered into the kitchen. How had I gotten here, hands covered in this dark stickiness? My better half was off teaching, and wasn’t there to keep me from giving in to this whim. I was afraid to look in the mirror, but look I did and GASP! I could no longer hide from the fact that like a Zombie’s magnetic pull to flesh, I had given into a Halloween indulgence of my own… the attack of the late night brownie craving.
Put down that bag of store-bought candy and release yourself from its stale, tired flavors. Make these and get the satisfaction of knowing exactly what ingredients are going into every tasty morsel you savor. To make these more candy like, I added burnt caramel sauce (leftover from another project), and a handful of extra dark chocolate chips to the top just before baking. The caramel lent an extra level of moisture, making these treats borderline fudgetastic. The result: an extra-chocolaty, tenderific brownie bite that’ll put your Halloween sweet tooth to bed with a TKO.
