We headed up north this weekend to celebrate our friend Meghan. She’s getting married to the amazing JB in a few weeks, and we wanted to do a girl’s weekend before her big event.
A small group of us rented a house right on the Russian River, and I knew we’d be spending the weekend in shorts, grilling great food and enjoying adult beverages. Jon told us that Meghan loves G&T’s with 209 Gin, so we created a mixer for great dockside cocktails. We crafted and bottled a simple syrup infusion, that paired wonderfully with the gin.
Love Potion No. Nine
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup local honey
2 cups water
1 bunch fresh Thyme
Combine the sugar, honey, and water in a pot, and heat until it reaches a rolling boil. Once boiling, turn the heat down to medium and let the mixture simmer for five minutes, or until the sugar crystals have dissolved. While your syrup is simmering, peel large slices of zest from your three lemons, being careful not to include any pith. Juice your citrus fruits, then rinse your Thyme and set the juice and herbs aside. Turn off the heat, and let the simple syrup cool slightly. Stir in the juice and whole sprigs of Thyme while the syrup is still warm. Cover, and let mixture stand for an hour. Pour your mixture, including the lemon zest and Thyme sprigs into a clean, seal-able bottle. Keep for up to two weeks refrigerated.

2 oz 209 Gin
1 oz Love Potion No. Nine (recipe below)
1 oz Q Tonic
Sprigs of fresh Thyme for garnish
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously for one minute, then strain into a stemmed glass. Garnish with one sprig of fresh time, and enjoy!
Throw on your Jorts, get down to the river, and bring a thermos of these to quench your thirst throughout the day.
